Publishers and master printers

Active in Paris: 1946–1965

Pierre Berès (1913–2008) was a Swedish-born French bookseller, antiquarian collector, publisher, and art collector, often described as “the king of booksellers” and a legendary figure in the art world. Closely connected to leading artists and writers, including Picasso and Sartre, he operated at the intersection of literature and modern art. After the war, Henri Matisse selected Bérès’s bookshop to present Jazz, his celebrated portfolio of cut-out prints.
