Francis Picabia Studio

26 Rue Danielle-Casanova (formerly Rue des Petits-Champs), Paris

Picabia’s postwar Paris studio at 26 Rue Danielle-Casanova served as a hub for artistic exchange between his return to Paris in 1945 and his death in 1953. Known for hosting lively, often chaotic gatherings “almost every Sunday,” he received younger artists and members of the avant-garde there. The maître sat enthroned on a black seat with pillows as guests approached, were received, and then sent off to view the works. Kelly attended one such Sunday gathering.
