Salon des Tuileries
The Salon des Tuileries was founded in 1923 as a modern alternative to the official academic salons, initiated by a group of artists including Albert Besnard, Antoine Bourdelle, André Derain, Othon Friesz, Charles Despiau, and Raoul Dufy. Conceived in opposition to academic conventions, the salon aimed to promote modern art while maintaining a degree of curatorial selection and institutional structure.
Unlike earlier salons, it did not maintain a fixed venue and was held in various locations in Paris. It presented painting and sculpture across a range of modern practices, bringing together established and emerging artists.
