Théâtre de Babylone
Théâtre de Babylone, located near the Left Bank artistic districts, emerged as an important avant-garde performance space in postwar Paris, closely associated with experimental theatre. It gained prominence with productions such as Samuel Beckett’s En attendant Godot (1953). On 5 January 1953, Roger Blin staged the play’s premiere there, a landmark event within the experimental theatre scene. Kelly attended the production alongside artists such as Al Held, Norman Bluhm, Sam Francis, and Carmen Herrera. The venue formed part of the wider cultural landscape in which visual art, literature, and performance intersected.
