Galerie des Deux Îles
Galerie des Deux Îles was a small exhibition space located on the Île Saint-Louis in central Paris, active in the postwar period. The gallery contributed to the exhibition landscape of modern and contemporary art in the late 1940s and early 1950s.
In February 1950, the gallery hosted a solo exhibition by Hans Richter, his first one-man show in Europe in approximately thirty years. During this exhibition, Ellsworth Kelly met Michel Seuphor by chance—an encounter that marked an important point of entry into the Parisian network of abstract artists and critics. The gallery’s exhibition programme also included shows by Leo Maillet, presentations of naïve art, and works by Camille Bryen.
