Norman Bluhm
Norman Bluhm (1921–1999) was an American painter associated with Abstract Expressionism. His artistic practice focused on large-scale gestural abstraction, characterized by dynamic brushwork, sweeping forms, and a vivid use of color. He moved to Paris in 1948 after completing his studies at the Illinois Institute of Technology and remained there until 1956. During this period he became part of the community of American expatriate artists working in the city. Bluhm moved within the same artistic circles as Joan Mitchell and Sam Francis, where he also developed a friendship with Ellsworth Kelly.
