Galerie Denise René
Founded and directed by Denise René, the gallery became a central venue for geometric abstraction in the postwar periodin Paris. From its opening in 1944, the gallery was dedicated to the promotion of abstract art, with a particular emphasis on constructivism, kinetic art, and systematic approaches to form and color.
The gallery exhibited both prewar masters—such as Max Ernst and Francis Picabia—and a new generation of artists, including Jean-Michel Atlan and Charles Lapicque, who were redefining the image of the already established École de Paris.
Galerie Denise René was a major point of convergence for artists from Latin America such as Cícero Dias, Jesús Rafael Soto, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Julio Le Parc, Luis Tomasello, and Hugo Demarco.
