Jean (Hans) Arp
Hans Arp (1886–1966) was a German-French sculptor, painter, and poet, known as Jean Arp in French-speaking contexts, was a German-French sculptor, painter, associated with Dada and later with the development of organic abstraction. A founding member of the Zurich Dada movement during the First World War, Arp later became an important figure in the international movement of non-figurative art, creating biomorphic sculptures and reliefs characterized by simplified, organic forms.
Ellsworth Kelly met Arp in February 1950 at the opening of Hans Richter’s exhibition at the Galerie des Deux Îles in Paris. Kelly subsequently visited Arp’s studio in Meudon-Val-Fleury, first with Ralph Coburn and later with Jack Youngerman
