Paul Éluard (1895–1952) was a French poet, known as the “Poet of Freedom,” and one of the leading figures of Surrealism. He was closely associated with major artists of the European avant-garde, including Pablo Picasso, and contributed to numerous livres d’artiste through collaborations with visual artists.
