Pierre Schneider (1925–2013) was a French art critic, writer, and curator, known for his writings on modern and contemporary art, including a major monograph on Henri Matisse. A contributor to Les Temps modernes—the journal of Jean-Paul Sartre and Maurice Merleau-Ponty—as well as ARTnews, he was closely associated with the postwar Paris art world.

Schneider contributed to the critical discourse surrounding the work of Joan Mitchell, including writing for the catalogue of her 1978 exhibition Tilleuls. His poems were also included in Mitchell’s Poetry Pastels, a series of works begun c. 1974–1975, in which pastel drawings were presented alongside typed poems by several poets, including Jacques Dupinand James Schuyler.
