Claire Falkenstein
Claire Falkenstein (1908–1997) was an American sculptor and painter known for her experimental work with metal wire, glass, and abstract spatial constructions.
She moved to Paris in 1950, where she became part of the international community of artists and was associated with figures such as Jean Arp and Alberto Giacometti. During this period she joined a group of American artists that included Sam Francis and Paul Jenkins, whose ideas were promoted by the art connoisseur Michel Tapié. The group sought to draw connections between the emerging movement of Art Informel and contemporary scientific thought, particularly Albert Einstein’s theories in mathematics and physics.
In 1953, Falkenstein participated together with Ellsworth Kelly in the 6th Salon des Réalités Nouvelles in Paris. In that exhibition Kelly showed his work Window (1953).
