Marcel Breuer (1902–1981) was a Hungarian-American architect and furniture designer associated with the Bauhaus and modernist architecture. During Ellsworth Kelly’s years in Paris, Breuer was involved in the design of the UNESCO headquarters building. Kelly approached him in the hope of obtaining a mural commission for the project, but the proposal did not lead to a commission.
