Galerie Lawrence

13 Rue de Sienne, Paris

Galerie Lawrence was a Paris gallery founded in 1961 by Lawrence Rubin, with financial backing from his brother Richard Rubin. The gallery was part of the postwar Paris art scene and focused on contemporary painting, particularly artists associated with Abstract Expressionism and Color Field painting.

Rubin worked closely with artists and prioritised supporting their careers through exhibitions and sales. Among the most notable exhibitions was that of Frank Stella, who had his first solo show in Europe at Galerie Lawrence.

In the mid-1960s, Rubin sold his Paris gallery to Ileana Sonnabend and returned to New York, marking the end of Galerie Lawrence’s activity under his direction.
