Active in Paris: 1946–1968

Tériade (Stratis Eleftheriadis) (1897–1983) was a Greek-born French art critic, editor, and publisher who played a significant role in the promotion of modern art in twentieth-century Paris. He was closely associated with leading avant-garde artists and became known for producing important illustrated art publications and livres d’artiste, including Henri Matisse’s Jazz (1947).
Tériade collaborated with artists such as Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, and Joan Miró, publishing major works through his journal Verve (1937-1960)  and through Éditions Tériade. His innovative model of artist collaborations and illustrated publications later served as an important precedent for Aimé Maeght’s journal Derrière le miroir.
