Joan Mitchell Studio (1st)

A small apartment located at 73 Rue Galande in the 5th arrondissement, near the Latin Quarter, served as the first studio of Joan Mitchell after her arrival in Paris in 1948. Her soon-to-be husband, Barney Rosset, an American book and magazine publisher, soon joined her. The studio had no heating, and in 1949 Mitchell and Rosset moved to Le Lavandou, a seaside resort town in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.
