Pablo Picasso
Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) was a Spanish painter and one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century, associated with the development of Cubism and numerous other modern art movements. He lived and worked in Paris from the early twentieth century, becoming a central figure of the European avant-garde. He was also associated with the circle of Galerie Maeght and produced numerous livres d’artiste. Although belonging to an earlier generation, Picasso remained an important presence in the postwar Paris art world in which Joan Mitchell, Elthworth Kelly and other American expatriate artists were active.
